“Mutua Madrileña” heads through the Canaries
Pachi and “Bubi” aren’t ruling out the possibility of another attack before Gibraltar

“Mutua Madrileña” is currently sailing through the Canary Islands and the Spanish boat has opted to go between the islands of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. It would seem that Bubi and Pachi are trying to find the best possible position from which to attack “Temenos 2” before reaching Gibraltar, the final scoring gate in the race, now 674 miles (1,248 km) from ESP-4’s current position.

During the night Pachi Rivero and Bubi Sansó’s “Mutua Madrileña” was the fastest entry in the fleet, maintaining the distance with the Franco-Swiss entry. At 16:00 GMT the gap between the two stands at 266 miles (492 km).

Michèle Paret and Dominique Wavre hope to cross the Straits on Friday and according to forecasts it’s likely that the same easterly winds will still be blowing. The race organisers published some updated predictions for the Barcelona finish which point towards “Mutua Madrileña” completing their Barcelona World Race run on Monday 18th at 04:00 local time (GMT +1).

“Paprec Virbac 2”, winners of the Barcelona World Race

Jean Pierre Dick and Damian Foxall reached Barcelona’s Olympic Port at 21:49 local time. The Frenchman and the Irishman have become the winners of the very first Barcelona World Race following 92 days, 8 hours, 49 minutes of round the world sailing.

“Hugo Boss” should finish tomorrow

“Hugo Boss” is climbing the Mediterranean, beating upwind with northeasterly breeze. At the 16:00 GMT reports, Thomson and Cape’s boat was 316 miles (585 km) from the Catalan capital, and as such is expected to reach Barcelona tomorrow, Wednesday night.
